6. "Benjamin Clifton bought this property in 1906. He was the son of Mr. & Mrs. George Clifton (Mary Holtan) who emigrated to Canada from Warwick, England in 1881. They arrived in Woodstock on July 4 to be met buy Mr. & Mrs. Ernest Jakeman; Mrs. Jakeman being Mr. Clifton's sister. They stayed with the Jakeman's for a short time until they acquired a log house on Lot 8, now Ralph Hansford's farm. There were 6 children - Elizabeth, Harry, Julia, Benjamin, Joseph (he was killed in a motorcycle accident) and Ernest. Benjamin was 11 years old when they arrived in Canada. He attended Sweaburg school. Next they rented a farm at Lot 7, Con. 4, from Thomas Pullin. Mr. Clifton remembers the use of a stumping machine operated by a JOHN BLANCHER and John Lawler." - Histories of the Farm, pg 30.

Predeceased by his daughter, Ena, infant.
His wife, Margaret, died and is buried at Nanton, Alberta.
John Blancher and his infant daughter, Ena, are buried in the Blancher plot, but have no inscription on the monument. There are several infant grandchildren buried there without any inscriptions.
John was a son of Martin Blancher who emigrated from Germany to Canada, date unknown. We have no record of his wife or where either is buried.
Martin was a farm labourer, also worked on the construction of the Woodstock, St. Thomas, Canadian Pacific Railway Branch Line. He finally settled in Centreville.
John was also a farm laborer, he dug a number of hand dug wells, lining them with stones, and worked for a time in a sawmill.
John and Margaret had fourteen children as follows: Beverly, Joseph, Phoebe (Mrs. Morris Boyse), Charles (Sandy), Nora (Mrs. Nora Couch), Ena (died in infancy), Ashton (his wife, Edna May Eaton), Gertrude (Mrs. Mervin Ellis), John, Daisy (Mrs. George Thompson), Ruby (Mrs. Manuel Gardner), Madeline (Mrs. Harold Carter), Mineatta (Mrs. Elmer Jorstad) and Harrison." - Found by Helen Loranger, on the West Oxford Church and Cemetery listings.

BLANCHER - The death occurred on Tuesday, June 28, 1960, at the residence of his daughter Lot 10, Con. 1, Dereham Tp., of John Blancher, husband of the late Margaret Barber, dear father of Beverly and Charles, RR5 Ingersoll; Joseph and Ashton, Ingersoll; John Jr., RR5, Strathroy; Harrison, RR5, St. Thomas; Mrs. Phoebe Boyse, Crampton; Mrs. Frank Harcourt (Nora), Woodstock; Mrs. George Warner (Gertrude), Springfield; Mrs. Geo. Thompson (Daisy), Salford; Mrs. Manuel Gardiner (Ruby), Oxford Station; Mrs. Harold Carter (Madeline), Thamesford and Mrs Mineatta Dumper, Calgary; dear brother of Christopher, Galt. Survived by 44 grandchildren and 114 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild., in his 92 year. Friends will be received at the McBeath Funeral Home, 246 Thames St. S., Ingersoll, where service will be held on Fri., July 1, at 2 pm. Interment West Oxford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Canadian Institute for the Blind, at the funeral home." - Provided by Donna Bartlett
